Step 1 - Select location

Course content

  • Module 1 – Legislation, subject matter, scope and definitions. How the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 work together, what data and organisations the Regulation covers, and the core definitions used throughout: data subject, personal data, processing, controller and processor.
  • Module 2 – Data processing principles. The six data processing principles, the accountability principle, lawful bases for processing, and the additional safeguards required for special category data such as health data.
  • Module 3 – Rights of data subjects. The eight individual rights under the Regulation, including the right to be informed, right of access, right to erasure and right to object, plus how to handle a data subject access request.
  • Module 4 – Controller and processor. Core obligations including data protection by design, contracts between controllers and processors, records of processing, breach notification, data protection impact assessments, and when a data protection officer is required.
  • Module 5 – International data transfers. The conditions for transferring personal data outside the UK, including adequacy decisions and safeguarding mechanisms such as standard contractual clauses.
  • Module 6 – The Information Commissioner’s Office. The ICO’s powers and role in providing guidance and enforcement.
  • Module 7 – Remedies, liabilities and penalties. Data subjects’ rights to complain and seek compensation, and the two-tier fine structure under the Regulation.

There are no prerequisites for purchasing this training course. However, you will be sent pre-reading material 20 days before your course begins, which we strongly recommend completing in advance.

Exam information

Attendees take the UK GDPR F exam set by IBITGQ (International Board for IT Governance Qualifications). There is no extra charge for this exam.

The assessment is delivered online and lasts 60 minutes.

Can exams be retaken?

Yes, if you are unsuccessful on the first attempt, you can retake the exam for an additional fee.

Qualifications

Those that pass the exam will earn the UK GDPR F qualification – recognised by employers worldwide.

I attended the Live Online version of this course which was a really easy process to login to the course and complete the included exam. It is a complex subject but the trainer explained everything in great detail and went at a good pace. Lots of chances to ask questions and go over practice questions before sitting the included exam which I passed with a good score, Credit to the trainer on preparing us for the exam.

The in-class trainer was great and I passed the exam with a very good score on first try. The course was well organised and on going support from IT Governance is fast and efficient. Highly recommend IT Governance to anyone who wants to upgrade their professional qualifications.

A very informative course and a lot to pack in within the day but definitely worthwhile attending. Having read all the material prior to the course it was extremely useful for the trainer to then go over in depth the different subject matter for what is a very dry but extremely important subject. This course is ideal for all that require the basics in GDPR, any additional requirements and you will definitely need the Practitioners course.

I found this course really useful as it gave a good understanding of GDPR and the trainer really helped the entire group absorb the information. However be prepared it is a complex subject and there is a lot to take in ready for the exam at the end of the course.

I attended the classroom-based course, 20th Jan 2020. The course was well lead and presented by a very passionate trainer. The delivery was fast-paced and concise, covering a large amount of practical information enabling me to pass the assessment. Anyone new to GDPR, I’d highly recommend reading the pre-course material. I recommend this course to anyone wanting to pursue a career in GDPR.

On-line course was interesting, informative and modules well covered and clearly explained. Documentation provided was of same quality, online tools and exam prep where spot on. Exam - all covered in the materials, few tricky questions! Overall, a very good way to learn more about GDPR. Practitioner course next!

Ceren, Executive Assistant attended this course in September, 2018: Our trainer was very helpful and listened to our individual scenarios and helped to guide us in the direction and where to turn to with further questions. It was a very good session and I feel confident in the foundation course.

Really good trainer! He kept us all engaged, made it interesting and we enjoyed it. Only thing that I would change was the length of the class. I think it would have been more beneficial to hold over two days as a lot to take in and I would have liked to have asked more questions. Other than that, really good and would recommend if looking to understand the basics or start a path into being a DPO
